Daily reflections: Tuesday: August 25/15

Gospel: Matthew 23:23... although Jesus was a man of peace and do most people be shown unconditional love and compassion. However, there is one group of people that he challenged over and over again because of their hypocrisy, and these were the religious leaders of the day. The read, “woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites,... you blind guides, you strain out a gnat but swallow a camel!”The religious leaders of the day were very legalistic and protected the institution at all costs. Jesus calls them blind because they are unable or unwilling to see and admit to their hypocrisy and transform their lives so as leaders he would be a true guide the people of God. Pope Francis has told the clergy of the world but after a day of ministry is to go home smelling like sheep, that is, the clergy are to go out where people are living their lives, carrying heavy burdens, despairing of life\'s meaning, living in abject poverty, and that is where the religious leaders of today are to spend their time, their energy, and bring hope to people.

Reflection: do the words of Jesus challenge our religious leaders today?

Prayer: Jesus, it is clear that you were not happy with that lifestyle and the lack of ministry to the people of God by the religious leaders of your day. May the clarion call of Pope Francis motivate our religious leaders of today be true guide for the people of God. Amen
