Daily reflections: Thursday: February 26/15

Gospel: Matthew 7:7... sometimes Jesus teaches by using a story, or a parable, in order to get across his idea of the kingdom of God. At other times Jesus chooses just a pithy statement that carries with it the essence of living the Christian life and in today\'s Gospel we have a good example of this. We read “in everything do to others as you would have them do to you, for this is the law and the prophets “. Every world religions has a similar statement that carries the essence of what it means to be a faithful follower of the core of that religion. When we look out at the world we see that the vast majority of religions find this a very difficult way of living. We give it a world where the violence of war and killing, whether a homeless and hungry, there are the victims of violence, rather hungry and the oppressed, is discrimination and racism, etc. At the same time there are people who are living a very compassionate life and working for social justice, or people who operate food banks and sacred space for people to get out of the cold. There are many people who go out off their way to care for the sick and the dying, etc. there is so much light in the darkness of our world and if we are true to our mission statement which is, ”to do to others as you would have them do unto you” then we\'ll begin to live in a world of justice, or everybody had enough, and peace.

Reflection: do you see yourself as a light shining in the darkness?

Prayer: Jesus, your mission statement is very clear and to the point. We know that you lived out your own mission statement which are then gave to your followers. I pray that each day your spirit will help me to see where and when I get into other people what I would hope they would do to me. Amen
