Daily reflections: Tuesday: February 3/15

The feast of St. Blaise... Blaise is best known for the tradition of blessing throats linked to him. He was an Armenian bishop and suffered martyrdom in the early fourth century. According  to legend, Blaise preformed a miraculous on a boy who was choking to death. He has been long associated with  cures of affliction called the throat and the blessing of throat may take place on this day in memory of him. Wherever masses celebrated today, the priest will offer the blessing of throats so that those who wish may come forward and have their throats with the memory of St. Blaise.

Reflection: does this sacramental still appeal to you?

Prayer: Through the intercession of St. Blaise may God protect you from all ailments of the throat and all other ailments, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen

this is the prayer the priest will say when he blesses someone\'s throat.
