Daily reflections: Monday: January 12/15

Gospel: Mark 1:14... we read that John the Baptist has been arrested and placed in prison. Jesus continues in his ministry of teaching the good news about the kingdom of God and hoping to attract followers who will commit their lives to building the kingdom of God. Jesus needed helpers. We read that Jesus saw Simon and Andrew fishing and Jesus said to them, “follow me, and I will make you fishers of people”, and they left their nets and followed him. This was a beginning of a whole new life for Andrew and Simon, they would have to internalize the message of Jesus, they would have to commit themselves to building the kingdom of God in the hearts of people, they would be putting their lives at risk as they John the Baptist, however, moved by the spirit they said yes to Jesus.

Reflection: can you make the words, ”follow me I will make you fishers of people” your own?

Prayer: Jesus, I heard the words come follow me and I will make you fishers of people, and after many years of ministry I can see how the grace of God has fulfilled the words. I pray that with the help of the grace of God I will be able to continue to proclaim the good news by action and when necessary by word. Amen
