Daily reflections: Thursday: December 18/14

Gospel: Matthew 1:18... one of the worst things that have happened to a Jewish woman was to become pregnant. The men in the town refused to marry her and she would be rejected by her family and would become destitute. Joseph and Mary planned to be married, and then Joseph learns that Mary is pregnant, he is not the father, and according to tradition he should put her away and refuse to marry her. Joseph is on the horn of a dilemna... to marry her or to put her away? Joseph has a dream where Angel tells him to take Mary as his wife and her except a child is born of her as his own. We read that the age-old said to him, “Joseph, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife” and with these words to some new that he had a message from God and he went against the tradition knowing that he would be laughed at and ridiculed by the other men in the town. Joseph had the courage to obey God and break with the tradition.

Reflection: when you are on the horns of a dilemma how you generally resolve it?

Prayer: Gracious God, this is story about Joseph choosing to obey the will of God in the face of criticism and ridicule. I pray that I will also have the grace to obey God and to do God\'s will even when it\'s not popular. Amen
