Daily reflection: Monday: December 8/14

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Gospel: Luke 1:26... this Gospel records the announcement of the angel to Mary  informing her that she was called by God to give birth to a boy and to name him Jesus. This announcement startled Mary. As she thought about it she realized that many of her own dreams and plans would no longer be realized. It was a life altering moment in her life and also a moment of grace which would enable her to embrace and say yes to God\'s call. She probably wrestled with a call for some time as she came to terms with having to let go her plans and say yes to the unknown future. She eventually arrived at that place and was able to say; “here I am, a servant of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word”. This was Mary\'s profound yes to what God and life was asking of her and certainly call it hurt up with the abiding trust in God as she stepped into the unknown.

Reflection: have you ever experienced a call like Mary’s which would change your life forever?

Prayer: Gracious God, how often life calls us to take the road less traveled and we are called to give up our own dreams and visions in order to do what is asked of us. I pray for the grace to imitate Mary but to say yes to God not just once but each and every day of my life. I know that to do so requires alike with deep and abiding trust in God\'s presence and love. Amen
