Nov.24/14 sacrificail giving

Daily reflections: Monday: November 24/14

Gospel: Luke 21:1... we read that one day Jesus was people watching in the temple and he saw first of all that rich people were putting in their donation. Then he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. Jesus said, “I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; all of them contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty “. It\'s clear that the rich people were making no kind of sacrifice in their contributions, or the no self denial of any kind. The widow by donating  two coins was making a sacrificial offering and this revealed in a much deeper way her spirituality and compassion for other people who like her were also poor. The difference between donating from a surplus with no inconvenience and making the donation was required of sacrifice and therefore have much more meaning in the eyes of Jesus.

Reflection: would you say that your donations are from your surplus or from your poverty?

Prayer: Jesus this story challenges me to take a good look at my givings... I know I need to question my motivation and my intention and to see if there\'s any element of sacrifice in the donations which I make for the good of others. Amen
