Daily reflections: Friday: October 17/14

Gospel: Luke 12:1... the last several days Luke has been giving the Pharisees and the lawyers, and the religious leaders, a hard time. We read today that Jesus is speaking to a large crowd and he gives them a warning; “beware the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, their hypocrisy”. This would\'ve startled the crowd because they were not used to having anyone speak truth to power and yet that\'s exactly what Jesus has done. At the time of Jesus there was a need for someone to speak the truth to power and try to bring about change. Today, there is a need for a prophet to speak the truth to power in order to bring transformation and growth to Christianity. Very often the biggest obstacle to transformation and growth are religious leaders who do not want to give up their control over people.

Reflection: Did you ever experience difficulty because someone was not speaking truth to power?

Prayer Jesus I see that you were a very courageous person because you spoke truth to power because it was the right thing to do and you knew you would be persecuted for it. I pray that I will have the grace to speak from my convictions and when necessary speak truth to power. Amen
