Oct.6/14 salvation?

Daily reflections: Monday: October 6/14

Gospel: Luke 10:25... in this Gospel a lawyer intends to test Jesus with what he thinks is important question. He asks: “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” His idea of the purpose of life is to get through this life here and end up in heaven. Jesus shows that he is mistaken and gives the following answer: “your show on God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself”. Then Jesus tells him the story of the Good Samaritan who went out of his way to help a person in distress. By this response Jesus teaching that salvation has to do with this world and salvation for the next world is a given. What Jesus really wants from people is that because they love God they translate thatlove into actions, such as, social justice, caring for the poor and the sick, living a life of compassion and reconciliation, nonviolence and peace. This is the meaning of salvation, to make this world a better place not just for humans but for all life forms.

Reflection: what meaning do you attach to the word salvation?

Prayer: Jesus the teacher, as you taught the lawyer the true meaning of salvation, I pray that I can understand the meaning of your teaching and apply to my own daily life. Amen
