Oct.1/14 , Weds. excuses

Daily reflections: Wednesday: October 1/14

Gospel: Luke 9:57... in this gospel Jesus is looking for a clear-cut commitment by those who claim to be his friend and his followers. Following this, there are the list of excuses that are offered in order to delay making this commitment. First there are those who are afraid about the insecurity of following Jesus, another excuse was to go and bury the dead, another excuse was to go to their family and say farewell. Jesus said the one who excuse himself to bury the dead when he said: “let the dead bury their own dead, as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Obviously this is a metaphor because the dead are not those who are physically dead by people who are dead spiritually, those who are dead by reason of their selfishness, those who are dead to making a commitment... Jesus tells his disciples all those people are not ready to make any kind of a real commitment to go and find a different audience and proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to them. Perhaps you will find people who are more receptive and more willing the faithful follower of Jesus and invest in building the kingdom of God.

Reflection: you struggle with excuses which hold you back from a full commitment to life in the kingdom?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, in your day you found that many people made various excuses in order to carry on with their own life and were not open to growth and transformation. I pray that I will allow the Holy Spirit to guide and inspire me not to let excuses come between God and my way of life. Amen
