Fri. Sept.12/14 a log in one\'s eye

Daily reflections: Friday: September 12/14

Gospel: Luke 6:39... it seems that Jesus was very much aware of the backbiting, judgments, criticisms, and discrimination between the people especially the religious leaders and the very people. Using a rich imagery Jesus gives a profound teaching all for this day and for ours. Jesus said; ”first take the log out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbors.” Jesus telling the people, and us, that is so easy to see other people\'s weaknesses and faults, it is so easy to fall into the habit of judging and condemning other people for behavior which displeases us. At the same time, it\'s so easy to overlook our own mistakes and shortcomings when we focus on other people. Jesus teaches that before we judge and condemn others for their mistakes and failures, we need to take a good look in the mirror and see ourselves, what is our log, and deal with our own log and after we have done this we will find no need nor desire to focus on the mistakes and shortcomings of others.

Reflection: can you identify a log in your eye?

Prayer: Jesus the teacher, I know that for the growth of my spirituality I must get to know myself well and be willing to take ownership of my weaknesses and mistakes and to seek out healing and transformation. It is not my task to correct or change other people. Amen
