Sept.4/14 St. Francis \"rebuild my Church\"

Back

Daily reflections: Thursday, September 4/14

Gospel: Luke 5:1... today we find Jesus by the lake teaching the people. Peer and some of the disciples had been fishing all night long and caught nothing. Jesus tells them to try again and let down their nets for a catch. They follow the words of Jesus, lowered their nets, and caught so many fish that their nets were in danger of breaking. Peter is puzzled by all of this and admits his failure to Jesus. There was a reason for this story. Jesus said to Simon Peter “from now on you\'ll be catching people”. When the disciples came ashore, they left everything and followed Jesus. Again this is a rich use of the metaphor, just as the net caught many fish so Jesus telling Peter and the disciples that when they take up their ministry they will catch many people and bring them into the kingdom of God. History shows that this indeed did happen. Christian community sprung up all over the Mideast, to Egypt and to Greece.

Reflection: people seem so eager to join those early Christian communities, why do you think so many people today are leaving the church?

Prayer: Today I see so many people are leaving the church, I\'m afraid of their many holes in the net which holds people in the kingdom of God.. My hope and prayer is that many people will devote themselves to rebuilding the church so that once more it will serve a useful purpose in the lives of people. We must join together and pray for a rebuilding of the church. Amen
