Sermon on the Mount

                               Daily reflection: Monday: June 9/14

Gospel: Matthew 5:1... this scripture reading is what we call the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus teaches the disciples the practical side of being his friends. It is probably one of the most challenging passages in the Gospels because it has to do with daily life of each one of us. We read: “Blessed are the poor, those who mourn, the meek those who hunger for justice, those who are compassionate, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, those who are persecuted as a result of living the Sermon on the Mount,... this all seems like a tall order and perhaps beyond the ordinary ability of the human. However, we\'ve just celebrated Pentecost Sunday, we are Spirit people  empower by the very Spirit of God to grow and be transformed and so be able to do our very best of living this teaching of Jesus.

Reflection: do you think that the Sermon on the Mount will work in today\'s world?

Prayer: Jesus my brother, in the Sermon on the Mount you reveal the dream of God for the people of God. I know. I know that by my own strength I am not able to live this teaching however I will pray everyday that the Spirit dwelling within me will guide me, give me wisdom, and the courage to do my best to live this teaching. Amen
