Holy Spirit

Daily reflections: Tuesday: May 27/14

Gospel John 16:5... again John has Jesus talking about his departure which today we call the ascension. Before he goes Jesus gives final instructions to his disciples. Jesus is aware of the disciples are fearful about doing his mission, fearful about the future, and wondering how they are ever going to be able to carry on the mission of Jesus. It\'s into that anxiety that Jesus speaks to them, he gives them I promise, “if I do not go away, the advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”. Today we know that Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit who were be released within our heart and soul and would empower them to carry on the mission of Jesus. Those were comforting words for the disciples and they should be reassuring covering words from the followers of Jesus even today. Our experience of the Holy Spirit has been both in baptism and confirmation.

Reflection: has your baptism and confirmation empowered you to carry on the mission of Jesus?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you were aware of the fear of your disciple even as you are aware of my fear to be faithful to you and to your mission. However, because of my baptism and confirmation I know that I have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to be a faithful follower of yours and to participate in your mission here on earth. Amen
