in memory of me

Daily reflections: Monday: May 12/14

Gospel John 10:11... we read that Jesus said to the Pharisees, “I am the good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.” With these words Jesus showed his great love and commitment to the well-being of the people and this was something that happened long before Good Friday. It is years of ministry Jesus was living his life in such a way as to enable those who got to know him and hear him would have a much healthier and happier life. On another occasion Jesus said to his friend, “do this in memory of me”, that is, to be a faithful follower of Jesus is to be able to make that kind of compassionate commitment to live a life and touched the lives of others in such a way that they will be able to live life to the full, or experience healing and liberation, so that they can be engaged in living with a new sense of freedom.

Reflection: are you, what does it mean to lay down your life for the good of others?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, it was day by day and hour by hour that you lived out your compassion and commitment to minister the people of your day and you did not count the cost. I pray that I have the same kind of courage, that I can live as you lived and do this in memory of you, and at the end of my life know that I\'ve done all I could do in memory of you. Amen
