a feeding Church

Daily reflections: Friday: May 2/14

Gospel John 6:1... this story is known the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, where the crowd is hungry, Jesus has been preaching and teaching for many hours, and it is suppertime. The question arises, where will we get food enough for 5000 people. They learn that a young boy has five goals and two fishes. We read that Jesus took the loaves and fishes, said a prayer, and his disciples distribute the food from everybody had enough to eat and there was food left over. There are many ways to interpret this story. I think one of the best ways to interpret is just that Jesus fed those who are hungry so the church and extension of Jesus, is called to be a feeding church, that is that the people in the church not hoard food for themselves while people go hungry. We can say that one of the most important missions of the church is to feed the poor and the hungry and had to do this in imitation of Jesus. We are called to be a feeding church.

Reflection: would you say that the church that you know is a feeding church?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we know that you were concerned about those who were poor and hungry and you provided them with food to satisfy that hunger. We as Church, must learn to imitate you, and be a feeding church that focuses on the poor and the hungry and by our giving make sure everyone has enough. Amen
