Daily reflections: Wednesday: January 13/16t

Gospel: Mark 1:29... today\'s Gospel can be a real inspiration for us as we go about our daily life and our relationships with other people. Jesus entered the house with his disciples and found Peter’s mother-in-law in bed with a fever. Jesus came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her and she began to serve them. First, Jesus took her by the hand... to show that he was going to give her a hand up. It shows that Jesus was not afraid to touch a sick person which was forbidden in his time by the Jewish law of purity. Then Jesus lifted her up... sign in something great and he was going to take place with the woman. There is beautiful symbolism... when somebody is down... it can be because of illness, misfortune, a crisis, carry a heavy burden, discouragement and even depression. At a time like this that we offer a hand up... first and most important is that we stop and secondly that we listen and to limit our talking is critical if we are going to get the person a hands up, it means if we are going to the person a hands up and you must do so with compassion, kindness, and sincerity. It\'s amazing how I\'m listening heart and at kind of voice and be very powerful in  restoring a person\'s good spirit.

Reflex: can you remember a time when you took the time to listen... to care... raise the person up?

Prayer: Jesus, you set a great example of a person who raised other people up by your ability listen with the ears of your heart and speak words of wisdom flowing from your compassion. I pray that I too take the time and to see what a person needs a hands up and do this by listening and speaking with a compassion heart. Amen
