Daily reflection: January: 7/16

Gospel; Luke 4:14... on the Sabbath Jesus went to the synagogue as was his custom and he read from the book of the prophet Isaiah, and then he said those words were meant for me. As Jesus understood the words he read became his mission statement about themselves. Jesus read “the Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, to bring good news to the poor, recovering of sight to the , to free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord\'s favor “. Jesus said,”today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing”. Many long years ago I took this mission statement of Jesus to be my own, it seemed to give meaning to life, seems to give purpose, it gives traction for ministry and it was what I was looking for many years ago. Perhaps, we all need the mission statement of some kind to keep us focused on the way we live our life each day.

Reflex: did you adopt a mission statement for yourself years ago?

Prayer: Jesus, you found your mission statement in the Scriptures and you lived out that mission statement to the full even though it did eventually bring about your death. I know that is by the grace of God and I\'m able to live this mission statement in some small way and for that I thank God. Amen
